“SETLOGELWA TSATSING SE IKISA MORITING”

Head teacher’s editorial

Dear Friends,

I’m sure most of us would agree that in this 21st century world we have moved from the very old chain letters (that some of us actually wrote over and over again) to send by snail mail to ten or fifteen or even twenty friends to the more recent chain emails, to chain messages on our cell phones. There are days when our in-boxes or What’s App are filled to the brim with advice, sayings, quotes or information we don’t quite know what to do with.

And after receiving such messages, we can be divided into a couple of groups from those people that delete without reading to those individuals that send everything they get on to every single contact on the phone and those more selective individuals fitting anywhere between the two ends.

I’d fit in the middle somewhere - sometimes I read chain-messages, sometimes I don’t. I seldom pass on messages. But now and again I receive something which I think is interesting. I don’t actually pass it on, but I don’t delete either. Maybe it’s a teacher thing whereby I think some day that particular piece of advice will come in handy. Recently I received a video which obviously I can’t reproduce here, but the general gist of the message was:

Office Information Page 2
School Term Three Calender Page 3
Sports Program Page 4

If you want to change the world: start off by making your bed! If you make your bed every morning you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It should give you a small sense of pride and will encourage you to do another task and another and another. And by the end of the day the one task completed will turn into many tasks completed. Making your bed each morning will reinforce the fact that the little things in life matter.

Seems like good advice which I would like to pass on to everyone today. If we start off our days doing small tasks those things may not grow into big insurmountable mountains. Each of us might choose a different task, but one thing is for sure, it needs to be done by us so that we get that feeling of accomplishment.

Here’s hoping this term is a great one for teachers, parents and students alike and that we tackle the tasks that need getting done in a way that is positive and helpful for ourselves and those we are with. Keep a positive attitude against all challenges and stay focused on all the goals that you have set.

Always remember that “Life is the most difficult exam. Many people fail because they try to copy others, not realizing that everyone has a different question paper.”
