What is a Parent Teacher Association?
It is an organisation of teachers and parents of their students, within a school, to promote mutual understanding and to increase the effectiveness of the educational program.
When you enroll your child at Baobab School you are automatically a member of the Parent Teacher Association. The greater parent and teacher body is then represented by an executive committee which is made up of parent volunteers and teacher representatives and a member of the school’s administration team.
It is important to be involved in your child’s education as a parent. The committee is there to balance the power between the school administration and the parents. When a school has a strong PTA, there is a sense of inclusiveness and harmony existing between itself and its customers, being the parents. This is a very important factor because if there are issues that need to be addressed or ideas that need to be shared, dialogue will be easier.
Baobab PTA doesn’t generally handle issues such as the day to day discipline of the children or how much teachers are paid. It is there to address issues such as teacher’s welfare, condition of the school, quality of education and school fees issues; along with school management.
The PTA is also there to add value to the school through various fundraising efforts. Projects that the PTA committee aims to raise funds for are not for basics such as books, equipment, and maintenance.
The relationship between Baobab school and its PTA has always been a great one. PTA committees of present and yester year have always played an important role within the structure of the school.
Earlier the PTA’s did a great deal of structural developments for the school (see below list of achievements) as it needed at the time. Today, the PTA continues to support Baobab School to add quality to fundamental things that the school budget does not cover.
I would like to thank the alumni, alumni parents, past teachers, current teachers, various committees, and the school board for allowing the PTA to be a part of this wonderful school.
To Baobab School, please continue having an open-door policy and allowing parents of this school to do their part in educating their children. We make a formidable team which all of us can be proud of.
Below are the list of things Baobab PTA’s have achieved in the past 25 years

Not forgetting the sponsoring of many a prize at various award giving ceremonies, the wonderful tea, and biscuit stands at meetings.
We cannot forget the delightful moments we shared through sponsored walks, swimathons, family fun days and dinners!
Bagaetsho Mabogo dinku aa thebana. Helen Keller wrote that Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.
Being an active member of the PTA is very rewarding and I am proud to have been the chairperson of the PTA committee for the past 3 years!
